This article reports on a new regulation on the regulation of rental housing for tourism purposes in Turkey. From now on, those who want to rent out their residences for tourism purposes must obtain the consent of the other floor owners in their building. Serious fines will be imposed on those who engage in unauthorized rental activities; an administrative fine of 100,000 liras will be imposed for the first detection and 500,000 liras for the following. In addition, a permit is required for renting houses for tourism purposes. Criminal sanctions are also envisaged for those without a permit.

The regulation seems to have been introduced to prevent tourism rentals without the approval of the residents of the apartment or housing complex. This regulation may lead to a preference for detached houses, as it may be more difficult to obtain the approval of apartment or complex residents. In addition, advertisement websites will be closely monitored to check unauthorized rental activities.

The deterrent penalties set out in the regulation and the measures taken to supervise tourism rental activities can be seen as an important step towards maintaining order in the tourism sector.
