Facing the Earthquake Reality: Which Regions Are Safer? the large earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş that we experienced in 2023 have once again revealed the seismic reality of our country. After this painful experience, the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) updated Turkey's earthquake risk map and shared it with the public. The new earthquake map published by AFAD for the year 2025 provides citizens with a clearer understanding of the risk situation of the region they live in, while it is also a great road map for us real estate professionals. Where are the Low-Risk Provinces? According to AFAD data, there are 23 cities in Turkey that are far from active fault lines and have low seismic activity. Among these provinces Dec: Karaman, Niğde, Nevşehir, Aksaray, Yozgat Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, some districts of Ankara Regions such as Bartın, Zonguldak, Sinop, Giresun and Trabzon stand out. These cities, and especially the districts located in their inner parts, are also considered safer in terms of construction. While cities such as Bartın are located more than 130 km away from fault lines, the history of seismic activity in provinces such as Zonguldak and Sinop has been quite calm. What Does the Earthquake Map Mean? The new map provides important data not only in areas with a high earthquake hazard, but also in terms of ground structure, possible severity values and settlement safety. In this way, it is emphasized once again that the construction should be handled based on the ground and engineering, not just the location.
