A New Directorate Established for Urban Transformation Projects

With the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette, the Urban Transformation Directorate has been established to more effectively manage the transformation processes of disaster-prone areas and risky buildings. With this regulation, the General Directorate of Infrastructure and Urban Transformation Services within the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has been abolished.

The new directorate will oversee the transformation, planning, financing, and monitoring processes of structures at risk of disasters. It will operate with a comprehensive organizational structure that includes the General Directorate of Urban Transformation, the Marmara Urban Transformation General Directorate, and various departmental units.

The directorate intends to accelerate urban transformation efforts by collaborating with public institutions, local governments, universities, private sector stakeholders, and international organizations.

This step is regarded as a significant move toward building safer and more modern cities for Türkiye’s future.
