New Era in Rent Increase: Increase Limit Lifted
The 25 percent limit on rent increases, which has been applied for the last two years, ends today. In the new period, rent increases will be determined according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate.
How Much Will the Rent Increase Be in July?
With the end of the application, consumer inflation (CPI) will be determinant in rents again. The rent increase rate will be determined according to the twelve-month average inflation. Landlords and tenants will take into account the 12-month average inflation during the increase determination period.
The rent increase rate for July will become clear with the June inflation figures. June inflation data will be announced on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 10.00 am.
What was the Rent Increase Ceiling in June?
The rent increase ceiling for June was determined by May inflation. In May, the 12-month average inflation was announced as 62.51 percent. Accordingly, business owners whose contracts expired were able to raise their rents by 62.51 percent. However, since the 25 percent increase limit was still in effect, this rate was not valid for residential rents.
In the new period, with the removal of the 25 percent limit, residential rents can also be increased according to CPI rates. This will directly affect tenants and landlords and will play an important role in determining rent increase rates.
