New Regulation on Rent Increase: It Will Not Exceed the TFP Rate!

New Regulation on Rent Increase: Cannot Exceed the CPI Rate!

With the new rent regulation, annual increases in residential rents will no longer exceed the Consumer Price Index (CPI) determined by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). This decision was put into practice in order to prevent rapidly increasing rental prices and to protect tenants.

What are the Details of the Regulation?

  • CPI Limit: Rent increase rates cannot be set above the annual CPI increase rate.
  • Lease Agreements: The new regulation applies to existing lease agreements and sets an upper limit on annual increases for tenants.
  • Tenant Protection: By preventing high rent increases, tenants will be protected with a more predictable increase policy.

Balance between Landlord and Tenant

While this new regulation provides a significant relief especially for low-income tenants, it also aims to keep rent increases under control for landlords. By aiming to ensure the balance between the lessor and the lessee, negative situations arising from excessive increases are tried to be prevented.
